    Compare Top FTP Hosts Features

Before you choose any particular FTP host to trust with your important, mission-critical business data, there are always a number of important things to keep in mind. While there are certain features that you can expect just about every provider to offer, only after you compare FTP hosts will you truly have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you're getting a company that you trust with such valuable information.

    The Top 3 FTP Features:

    Security

As a leading FTP host, Sharetru offers a variety of different features that are all designed to keep your valuable data secure at all times. Sharetru maintains a system-wide IP blacklist that blocks all types of hacker activity. Sharetru also allows you to enable or disable each file transfer protocol, to restrict access to your FTP server by country and even provides user-level IP address and protocol restrictions for you to use to create a tighter level of security around your entire company’s FTP site.

Other providers like Brick FTP, Smart File, ExaVault and FTP Worldwide do not extend such capabilities to their customers. ExaVault allows you to enable and disable certain security protocols, but not nearly to the extent that Sharetru does. Brick FTP also gives you user-level IP address controls, but no limits are available by protocol.

    Folder Access Permissions

Sharetru also provides businesses with the ability to control who is accessing a particular folder on a server, what changes (if any) they can make to that folder and more at their own discretion. Sharetru includes built-in functionality that allows businesses to prevent the visibility of non-assigned folders, set upload, download and delete permissions, list directory permissions and more.

Smart File does not give users the ability to prevent the visibility of non-assigned folders in any way, nor does FTP Worldwide. Neither Brick FTP or FTP Worldwide can separate a user’s upload permission from their delete permission.

    User Types and Roles

Sharetru gives businesses the ability to not only have multiple site administrators, but also to have sub-site administrators who are acting within a particular group - which is ideal for delegating administration based on departments within a company when information is only available on a "need to know" basis. While Brick FTP, Smart File, ExaVault and FTP Worldwide all give businesses the ability to create standard user accounts, none of them offer sub-site administators and only Brick FTP and ExaVault allow for multiple site administrators in any way. Requiring multiple administrators to share the same login credential violates an important rule of HIPAA access controls
